MANTECA — San Joaquin County Sheriff’s deputies recovered a body from the San Joaquin River Monday, April 28, believed to be a man who drowned last week.
Officials on Wednesday were awaiting the results of DNA tests to identify the body, which deputies spotted at 2:25 p.m. Monday near West Lorenzen Road, according to Sheriff’s spokesman Les Garcia.
The 18-year-old, whose name has not been released, was reportedly trying to swim across the river near McMullin and Hays Roads on Monday, April 21, when he went underwater and never surfaced, witnesses said.
