David Bonde was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday, May 6, for stabbing to death a Manteca man after a botched attempt to steal his truck on Christmas morning 2006.
A jury found the 37-year-old Stockton man guilty of first-degree murder on March 21 for the killing of Ryan Gomes outside of his Manteca home.
According to police reports, Bonde hot-wired a 1968 Chevy pickup truck parked outside Gomes’ house, but the truck stopped before the end of the block.
When Gomes heard the noise, he rushed out to confront Bonde, who then stabbed him several times.
Because the jury found that the murder was committed as part of a robbery, a carjacking and an attempt to evade arrest, state law required a life sentence.
