Royals win a pair

The Spreckels Park Little League Junior Gold Blue Devils posted a pair of wins over Dublin on Saturday, May 10.

The Blue Devils won the first contest 4-3 and took the second in a 5-2 score.

In game one, Rodrigo Contreras and Bret Riley combined to limit Dublin on the mound while Austin Acker delivered a two-run single and Riley doubled.

Contreras went four innings (two runs) with two strikeouts while Riley allowed one run in three innings and struck out one. Riley retired eight-straight hitters in one stretch.

In game two, Jason Angelo doubled home two runs in a five-run fourth inning to lead the Blue Devils to the victory. Tim Thornton was the winning pitcher and Zac Carrillo (three strikeouts) earned the save by pitching three innings of scoreless relief.

Elijah English (1-for-2, RBI) and Caleb Young (2-for-4) also hit well.

Spreckels Park Major Orioles 14,  Angels 3

The Orioles broke open a 3-2 deficit with seven fourth-inning runs. George Uriarte started off the inning with a two-out bases loaded hit and Nick VanWarmerdam ripped a single to score Uriarte. Jonathan Barry knocked in two more and Alex Jorgensen capped the inning with a grand slam to center.

Jason Manuta pitched over two innings withs even strikouts while Nicholas Knowles, Michael Garibay and Nick VanWarmerdam pitched the final three innings for the O’s

Justin Canady (two), Jacob Vaughan, Byron Burlaza and Ryan Bergman all contributed to the Orioles 14-hit attack. The Angels were led by John Poncini (2-for-2, three-run home run), William Thompson (hit) and Aaron Mackey (hit).

Minor Giants 12, Mets 1

Mathew Snell, Stephen Halleck, and Steve Rios combined for a two-hitter in a big win. The Giants added 15 knocks at the plate, and were led by Abraham Velasco (three hits, double). Kody Justis and Halleck cracked two doubles each while Zakary DeRossett, Mark Vicente and Justin Killian managed two hits each. Rios and Snell added hits as well,

 The Mets’ Anthony Arredondo smacked a double and Carlos Pedel added a single.

Minor Giants 10, Pirates 1

Vicente avenged a poor outing against the Pirates with a one-hit effort across three innings. Killian pitched the final two while the Giants bats never missed a beat, blasting out 11 hits. DeRossett went 3-for-3 with a double while Killian blasted two doubles.  Halleck and Vicente added to the cause with two hits each. Kody Justis contributed with a double and Mathew Snell added a single. Jeremy Parente and Jared Strack had the Pirate hits.
