Memorial Day is Monday, May 26. Below are two events being held in our community that day to honor the nation’s veterans.

Welcome Home Heroes
All weekend long, people will come together to honor those who have served in the United States military at a Welcome Home Heroes Memorial Commemoration.

From today, Friday, May 23 to Sunday, May 25, folks will gather for musical performances, aircraft flyovers, military hardware display and fireworks at First Assembly of God Church, 486 Button Ave., in Manteca.

The musical will be performed at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and at 10 a.m. Sunday.

The Traveling Tribute, a memorial featuring the names of more than 4,000 men and women who have died in the war since Sept. 11, 2001, will be dedicated at 4 p.m. Saturday, as a vintage aircraft flies overhead.

American Legion, VFW honor vets
American Legion Post 249 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts 6311 and 1051 will hold their annual Memorial Day celebration at 10 a.m. Monday, May 26 at East Union Cemetery, 1035 N. Union Road, in Manteca.

The flag will be presented and Gold Star Mothers will be introduced. Past American Legion Commander Ken Borders and Manteca Councilman Steve DeBrum will speak.
