Manteca and Sierra High soccer players will have to wait a few more days to settle a tight crosstown contest at Guss Schmiedt Field.
The teams battled to a 1-0 Sierra lead after one half Tuesday, Sept. 15, before a power failure forced a postponement of the second half.
Oscar Garcia snuck a ball past Manteca goalkeeper Florin Lambert 21 minutes into the contest on a Braian Gomez assist for the only goal.
Sierra (0-0-1 Valley Oak League, 5-5-1 overall) will resume play against Manteca (0-1, 1-7) at 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21.
East Union (2-0, 5-3-1) managed a second consecutive VOL victory with a 2-0 shutout of visiting Oakdale on Tuesday.
Gabriel Avalos scored on a Francisco Marmolejo assist, and Victory Garibay scored his fourth goal of the season on a Julio Pimentel pass. Joe Modesto (five saves) preserved the shutout.
VolleyballEast Union dropped a five-game match to Central Valley on Wednesday 25-17, 24-26, 25-27, 25-22, 15-2. Amber Abidi delivered seven kills, and Taylor Maruca (10 assists) and Carmen Haro (nine assists) controlled passing. Courtney Palmer had seven kills and five digs.
Manteca was swept by Ceres 25-13, 25-22, 25-22 on Wednesday. Davina Bennett had 14 assists, Cynthia Perez had five kills, and Abby Rosas had seven digs and four aces.
Playing without seniors, Lathrop opened league strong with a competitive 25-23, 25-21, 26-24 loss to East Union on Monday. Janel Butler had 24 assists, and Cecelia Lopez had seven kills, four aces and three blocks.
