Fifteen 2009 graduates from Manteca, Sierra and East Union High schools will play in the last organized competition of their prep careers with action in the 19th annual High School All-Star Baseball-Softball Classic and 36th annual Lions All-Star Football Classic on Friday, June 19, and Saturday, June 20.

The graduated seniors were selected among the best athletes in the Sac-Joaquin Section and will take on other all-star players in a north vs south format in all three sports in Stockton.

Football

Linebacker Michael Turner and offensive lineman Jacob Faulkner are back on the gridiron for Sierra after a successful run into the second round of the Division IV section playoffs.

Playing for the North, the Sierra grads will be joined by East Union standout tight end Dakota Anderson and Manteca’s speedy defensive back, LaRon Bennett.

The team will compete alongside the likes of standout running backs Joe Potter (McNair), Charlie McDonald (Escalon) and Tracy quarterback Preston Mattos.

The South carries star players from the Modesto and Merced areas, including Oakdale running back and familiar Valley Oak League foe Nicky Batteate and Central Valley quarterback Trevor Mew.

The contest kicks off at 7 p.m. Saturday at the University of the Pacific in Stockton and will be coached by Scott Swartz of McNair (North) and Dennis Stubbs of Los Banos (South).

Baseball

East Union slugger Wade Morten and standout Manteca pitcher Ricky Acosta will lead the North against the likes of Sierra’s Andy Scott (pitcher) and Jordan Louie (catcher) when the All-Star Baseball Classic begins at 5 p.m. Friday at Delta College in Stockton.

Morten and Acosta will team up with Oakdale’s Logan Bruce and Ripon’s Kyle Wagner while Scott and Louie join Chris Fleckenstein of Weston Ranch and St. Mary’s Joshua Grijalva among others.

Softball

East Union’s Alicia Cook, Ally Palluck and Rochelle Sellers will join Manteca standout Trina Solario on the North team in the All-Star Softball Classic at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Delta College.

The four will join other all-stars to battle Sierra’s Karissa Valdez, Monica Morado and Heather Scharmann on the South.
