EDITOR,
It’s little wonder why we have an ongoing deficit in Manteca, based on the list of projects pending in park spending.
It isn’t the spending as much as it is the City Council’s priorities. It seems as though an extravagant amount of spending is designated to Woodward, which is only a community park.
Of particular interest is the long list of projects that will be funded by Redevelopment Agency loans. Redevelopment funding is something that should be discontinued, for it cheats kids and public safety out of millions in funding.
Our current RDA debt is near $400 million. The schools were entitled to 52 percent of that, their share of business increment taxes.
Do you still wonder why our schools are in trouble? The city intends to double that debt to us with luxury projects slated for RDA spending. This will take more taxes from schools. Then the state and city will tax the hell out of us for this loss to schools and public safety.
Isn’t it time to start fighting for your kids’ school taxes? The consequence is that pretty soon home school, won’t be an option — it will be the only schooling.
Contact the governor’s office and tell him to use his executive powers to shut down the Redevelopment Agency and restore your kids’ funding to the state.
