After four intense restarts, a series of lead changes and a crash against the wall, Manteca racer Josh Gomes secured a victory in the Baby Grand main event Saturday, Aug. 29, at Stockton 99 Speedway.

Gomes started alongside fast qualifier John Bowman and outlasted two early restarts before Manteca teammate Michael Sandoval collided with Jerrett Kelly against the wall and was forced to the back of the pack.

Sandoval fought back to provide pressure on Gomes, along with Baby Grand points leader Dylan Hutchinson, but Gomes outlasted the pair for a tight finish. Sandoval finished second and Hutchinson third.

“I was told on the radio Michael was on my bumper through the corners,” Gomes said. “But he raced me clean, and I brought home the win.”

On Saturday, Sept. 5, Stockton 99 will be host to the third and final Tri-Holiday Classic race of the season with a NASCAR Whelen All-America Series Western Late Model 150-lap feature, the Grand American Modified and ALSC/Street Stock divisions in 75-lap races and the Bomber class in a 60-lap main. Fireworks will cap the evening.
