Youth Roundup: Stikers win; JV Jaguars fall

The Manteca Strikers under-12 boys team continued Manteca Area Soccer League action with a 7-1 win over the Vipers on Saturday, Sept. 5. Arturo Galvin scored twice, and Jorge Rodriguez, Tanner Peterson, Tanner Peterson and Zackary Carter scored once each. Goalkeeper Andrew Rosas and fullback Isacc Lerma-Fregoso led a tenacious Strikers defense.

Manteca Jaguars football

The junior varsity Jaguars fell to the Livingston Wolves, 24-0, on Saturday, despite 125 yards rushing from Lechi Nkwocha on 16 carries. Livingston worked past the efforts of Nkwocha (six tackles), Edward Gomez (five tackles), Juan Diaz (five tackles) and Raul Uribe (four tackles). The Jaguars play the Waterford Sabercats on Saturday, Sept. 12.

Manteca Jr. Buffs football

The junior varsity Jr. Buffs beat the Modesto Rams, 22-0, on Sunday, Sept. 6. Mathew Wilkerson rolled to 124 yards and two touchdowns, and Hector Soto ran for 79 yards and a score. Michael Hatfield kicked in two extra points. Manteca offensive linemen Joe Evenson, Alex Cardwell, Tim Giannosa, Giovanni Galletta and Gus Ladue kept the team moving, and Ike Gutierrez, Chase McKee and Hatfield led a stubborn defensive line. Chucky Good had seven tackles and a sack, and Hector Soto made six tackles. The Buffs play Big Valley on Saturday.
